Current tweeks

Boring but necessary, started dialling in the electric controller to match the motor (100A nominal / 200A peak) and battery (350A) specification to ensure I can pull as much current out of the power source with out blowing anything up. To do this I completed 6 runs at different settings under heavy load so the bike draws full current. The max amp draw was observed by recording the live battery activity through the BMS. I think the theoretical calculations suggest that 200 amps of 350amps is 57% and when the battery was limited to 55% it nearly drew the max peak current of 200amps. I think 55% is a safe battery limit to stick with.

The two settings of importance here are:

  • Current percentage: The max motor current is (The value * peak current of the controller).
  • Battery current limit: Setting limits on the battery current protects the battery. A lower value means a lower battery output current and better protective effect. But excessively low value will affect acceleration.
