Rear light kit

Got the rear light kit up and running. I knocked up a 3mm aluminium number plate holder to attach to a KTM number plate bracket to hold the lights a while back. However, up to now the biggest issue was lighting the number plate as well as a running/brake light in a small package. There are plenty of big lights kits available but these looked terrible. After a good search I finally found one made by Shin Yo here. The light is E-Rated so that is perfect.

I also had issues with the cabling but quickly found an 8 core wire to take a signal from the switch and then finally back to the dashboard. Previously I had 12v grounded some of the lights straight to the battery but have found that this caused issues with the dashboard. So there is a rewiring job to do as a last push to the MSVA completion line.

Think this should be legally correct.

  • Indicators are min 180mm apart (actually 250mm)
  • Indicator is less than 300mm from the rear (actually 0mm)
  • Indicators are min height 350mm (actually 450mm)
  • Stop & Rear position is min 250mm height (actually 500mm)
  • Registration (white)

Full list of conditions noted here.

I also 3D printed a cover I made in CAD for the rear of the numberplate to ensure none of the cables tangle in wheel, tidy the area and give it some weather coverage although I intend to seal the 9 pin connector to ensure stop water ingress.
